Classes & the Bristal Project
Ava teaches knitting the way she learned it — slowly, together, and with somebody specific in mind for every finished piece.

20+ girls, one classroom, a lot of cushions
Ava ran a hands-on knitting class where more than twenty girls learned to make seat cushions from scratch. Most had never held knitting needles before. Over the course of the class they learned casting on, the knit stitch, shaping, and finishing — and each of them completed a cushion of their own.
Every cushion made in that class was donated to elderly residents of The Bristal Assisted Living in North Woodmere, NY. The girls delivered them in person, in a rainbow of colors, so residents could pick the one that felt like theirs.
